Why Is Posing Important?
Posing is the most important factor of a fashion illustration, and it’s the most commonly overlooked aspect of a fashion illustration.

Without a pose, your fashion illustration is just a garment on a mannequin.

A pose can make a boring garment interesting, can tell a story, convey an emotion, sell a design, exude energy, emanate an atmosphere, it can grab someone’s attention.

90% of fashion illustrations I see are runway poses, which has it’s uses, but if they were the strongest way to showcase the clothes wouldn’t all campaigns and editorials just be runway photos?

Runway fashion illustrations are the product shots of the illustration world, they show the garment as it is but not much else.

If you’re wanting to go deeper, tell a story, create something unique, then posing is what you’re going to want to focus on!

I’ve covered pose in a few other courses but I've always received feedback of 'I'd love to focus on that for longer' so here we are!

Posing is one of the most commented on things of my work, and it’s my fave thing to focus on!

After teaching other illustrators for going on 4 years now, I know that this is one of the things people are most frustrated with their work. So we’re going to push through and move past it!

Meet your Tutor
Finally get to talk about my fave topic, me!

Only messing, but for those who don't know I'm Scott W Mason, a London based Fashion Illustrator signed to Lipstick of London.

I've been live event illustrating for 12 years and a full time Fashion Illustrator for over 4 years

I began doing creating courses 4 years ago, starting with a Business course, then an Illustration course, Portfolio, DrawingLive Event, Wedding, now we're welcoming POSE to the family!

And in these courses I share examples, exercises, lessons and feedback all based around improving your work and honing your own style, these aren't courses to draw like me, but to develop your own work as a Fashion Illustrator!

What if I’m new to Fashion Illustration?
The course is open to all skill levels, we do cover basic proportion and anatomy in the first module and all feedback is
tailored to your specific skill level, so everyone's welcome!

How much time will I need to dedicate?
The course ideally requires a time commitment of around 4 hours a week
Each modules is roughly 2 hours, the homework will take you an hour, then an hour for the weekly Zoom feedback session.

What materials will I need?
I encourage everyone to draw using materials they normally would so there's no specific materials required,
I do run through my suggestions for materials in Module 1 but there's no requirement to use the same as I do.

Is it all online?
Yup! All courses are fully online so you can attend from anywhere in the world.

I'm a digital artist, can I still join?
Of course! The drawing courses will be taught prominently using traditional mediums but the methods
and teachings still apply to digital. I've had digital artists take the courses before and seen huge improvements.

I live on the other side of the planet, can I still take the course?
I've had people attend who live in India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America, Italy, Spain, Japan, Greece,
Columbia, France, Mauritius, Cape Town, China, Mexico, Sweden, Hong Kong and more, so it works for all!

I'm really busy, would I be able to fit the course in?
The course is pre recorded videos that you can watch whenever suit you, then we do a weekly Zoom calls to go over any questions and feedback,
we all vote on what times best, so the courses can defo fit into anyone’s schedule.

I'm not strictly a Fashion Illustrator, is this course still useful?
These courses cover business practices, career advice and drawing methods that are applicable to all
freelance creatives, I created the course from a fashion illustrators lens but it's really simple
to apply it to your own niches and specifics.
